Anchors
Anchors are utilized since there are vessels, the earliest types where a rock and a rope, and they are still in use today. Being a mandatory instrument on-board their study allows us to understand ship’s traffic, anchorage and fishing practices across the ages. In the case of PCASBL we are trying to located, identify and date the anchors existing in and out of the water to have a better understanding of the maritime interface of Lagos city. To do such we rely on works, as Haldane (roman lead stock typology), Gay, Curryer (anchor evolution), Chouzenoux (French modern age typology) and many others. You can see the videos and photos of our anchors and to your right a small presentation on anchors transformation across the ages.
